Description:

We have developed a prototype of a cheap but effective life-saving ventilator system. Consisting of a pneumatic actuator which in a controlled & calculated speed & feed rate which remains within the positive volume intake 250 ml/sec & spread out over 3.8 sec. presses the bellow which releases air at 1.8 atm. from its outlet (via micron mesh filters to eliminate suspended particulate matters from the air) which is stepped down to +ve 40mm of WC (in breath pressure) to the lung, via the in line accumulator (to take care of transient press. and vol. surging). Pressure safety valves with electronic relays and DP transmitters for annunciations and bypass (in case of emergency) is put in 3 downstream gates of the bellow output for patient safety. In the expiration phase, the actuator is reversed by suitable 5/3 port DCVs and in built reed switch (position feedback) which expands the bellow for intake air, at the same time the accumulator in the circuit is vented and it releases the positive pressure air, creating a suction in the tracheal supply to the lungs which helps the lungs to breathe out. The WOB (work of breathing) or effort of the human lungs is thus reduced to minimal level by the pnemo mechanical interface. A NEPA filter is provided at the outlet of the lung tracheal line, so that the expelled air from the infected lungs cannot pollute the room air
